Spread the love

Peppermint is by far is one of my favorite essential oils. Peppermint is actually THE reason Nathan and I fell in love with essential oils to begin with! So many of the things that ailed me were touched by this one oil. I went from a total essential oil skeptic to a believer when I experienced the true power of one drop.

I secretly made fun of people that said things like “One drop can change your life.”

I didn’t believe it.

I’d spent years swallowing a bowl full of vitamins each day to maintain health (which does work too!) so oils sounded too easy and far too good to be true. And although one drop of essential oil won’t cure every single thing that ails you instantly, one drop of Peppermint oil did, in fact, change our lives.

Trying Peppermint for extreme tension and pain in my head as well as struggles with my respiratory and digestive system taught me there was oh so much I still had to learn about the various different natural solutions God has created – that he wasn’t limited to a vitamin (or even an oil). This revelation took me on an amazing journey of exploring a whole new way of accomplishing health goals that was exciting and ignited new passion in me that had long since waned. This passion caught fire among some of our close friends and complete strangers and birthed a movement. Elev8 Oils is the fruit of the 10s and 1000s of people who have gotten excited like we did about how practical and effective essential oils are.

But back to peppermint. I told you it changed our life! I get a little excited talking about it if you can’t tell. 😁 Because I love this oil so much, it is number one in a new series I’m bringing to you called the “Daily Habits” series. You can check out the entire series here on the blog or watch the videos on YouTube. My goal is to help you take one oil at a time and find 5 simple ways to incorporate them into your day so that using them becomes…

…a daily habit.

It doesn’t matter how healthy and amazing something is if you aren’t doing it!!

So let’s journey together to create some new daily and healthy habits by using our essential oils more! Here are 3 easy ways I’ve made oils a daily habit – no matter the oil. But below are 5 ways I made Peppermint a daily habit!

Top 5 Most Common Uses for Peppermint Essential Oil

#1: Use Peppermint Oil for Energy

I wake up and one of the first things I do after my feet hit the floor is to put 1-2 drops of doTERRA peppermint oil into my hands, rub them together, and then inhale deeply for 30 seconds. It’s a super simple way to wake yourself up and help you feel more energized and alert.

Set your peppermint oil by your bedside so it’s convenient, or better yet, put it by the coffee pot! You’re sure to try this in the morning if it’s sitting there. 😄☕ Before you make yourself that cup of coffee, try this healthy energy hack and see how you feel.

There’s nothing wrong with a steaming hot cup of coffee, but if you’re drinking it because you are constantly dragging in the mornings, do your body a loving favor and try this non-caffeinated version of a pick-me-up. It will spare your adrenals from fatigue, which might be contributing to your overall feeling of low-energy.

#2: Use Peppermint Oil for Tension

Pain and tension come in all forms. Maybe you wake up feeling tights in your neck or with a low-grade headache. Rub a drop or two into your temples, keeping the oil away from your eyes. When I feel a doosey coming on my first line of defense is to rub doTERRA Peppermint oil into my temples and on the back of my neck, drink 8-10 ounces of water, and close my eyes for 2-5 minutes.

After a hard workout and my muscles get sore, I love to rub peppermint into the sore areas. Consider using a carrier oil like coconut if you have a lot of “square footage” to cover. If you have achy joints in the morning or when the weather changes, rub peppermint oil right into the area of discomfort.

#3: Use Peppermint Oil for Respiratory Support

Have I mentioned yet that Peppermint is one of my absolute most favorite oils?

The fact that it helps with respiratory issues is one of the reasons why I love it so much!

I rub it on my chest before I go workout, I keep it in my purse in case there is a seasonal or environmental flare-up, and I inhale it cupped hands for 30 seconds at a time at the first sign of congestion or a cold.

I never knew how important breathing was to my sleep (go figure) until I started trying Peppermint oil at night. It clears my airways and allows me to relax…so much so that I realized how much I wasn’t relaxing prior to using it. I guess it’s difficult to relax and fall asleep if you’re subconsciously having trouble breathing!

Try it out also if you have a roommate who keeps you up late snoring. 😴 Not saying I’ve ever experienced that, but….

#4: Use Peppermint Oil for Digestive Health

2 out of 3 Americans are plagued by digestive issues.

These are some of the most debilitating types of issues because most people struggle silently. No one wants to admit their stomach hurts, they have gas (that can actually be extremely painful), or that their food isn’t sitting quite right.

Drinking a drop of peppermint oil in a glass of water before eating and after can help calm an upset stomach. And in our home, we like to rub it right onto our tummies when they are upset. It works like a charm typically within minutes!

#5: Use Peppermint Oil for Cooling

Are you in a particularly hot season of life and wish there was a natural alternative to calm the storm raging inside of you?

Well, you’re in luck.

The next time you feel a hot flash coming on, grab Peppermint oil and rub a drop or two into the back or your neck and shoulder.

If you or a child get sick and feel your temperature start to rise, grab the fractionated coconut oil and mix a few drops with Peppermint oil and rub it down the spine. This will help the body to cool down naturally without taking away its ability to fight off the sickness that’s causing the temperature to spike in the first place.

And if you’re ever in a tight space, at a theme park, or in a hot car, rub a drop of peppermint into your neck and experience the cooling effect less than 2 minutes later.
